Welcome to Honor Franklin Myofunctional & Speech Clinic website – and my first blog!
I have wanted to create a website for a long time for two reasons. For one, I wanted to look like I am part of the 21st Century but, mainly, so I can update and share the most current and accurate information regarding Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders OMD’s or “tongue thrust“. If you have toured my website, you will see that, since 1977, I have specialized in the evaluation and treatment of Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) and articulation (speech) disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. In that time, I have provided help for a range of issues, including elimination of noxious oral habits such as thumbsucking and finger sucking, diagnosis and treatment of an incorrect resting tongue and lip posture and incorrect swallowing pattern (referred to in the past as “tongue thrust” or “tongue thrust swallowing“) and articulation (speech) disorders.
I hold the distinction of being a Certified Orofacial Myologist/ Myofunctional Therapist by the International Association of Orofacial Myology (IAOM), an honor held by a small percentage of professionals practicing orofacial myofunctional therapy. In fact, I am the ONLY Certified Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist in Dallas and am one of three in the state of Texas.
In addition, I am also a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist by the State of Texas and specialize in treating articulation (speech) disorders in children, adolescents and adults.
When I started my private practice in 1977, the word “blog” did not even exist, and I didn’t exactly embrace blog reading (or writing) until it became an integral part of our online world. I am just so happy to have the opportunity to share information via this blog in the upcoming months and hope you will contact me with any questions or comments at honorfranklin@att.net.
It is an honor to do this work and my patients and the orthodontists, maxillofacial surgeons, pediatric dentists, physicians and speech-language pathologists who refer to me are the best part of it!
